Beltane Rabbit Harvest

A very special Beltane rabbit slaughter!

All participants are invited to stay with us after class Saturday night to celebrate Beltane with us the following day!

Each student will kill their own rabbit.

Topics Covered

-ethical and human procedures of rabbit harvesting

-gutting cleanly, and sorting of organs into edible and non-food uses

-skinning techniques

-fleshing the hide

-we will discuss tanning the skin using bark and brain tanning (but if you stay Sunday we will actually tan the skins overnight Saturday and soften them Sunday during the festivities!)

-the making of lucky rabbit’s feet

-different uses of non-food parts such as bladder, gall, pericardium, and more!

-butchering

-cooking techniques for maximum deliciousness

And as part of honoring Beltane we will dive deep into the folk traditions of rabbit magick, exploring the history of rabbits and rabbit lore in European and Isles culture, how our ancestors wove the importance of rabbits into village life, and how we can honor them today.

BELTANE CELEBRATION

All participants are invited to stay through Sunday evening to partake in our annual Beltane Maypole extravaganza! Do you want to donate your rabbit kill to our sacred feast? Shall we feed the people and the land with the labor of our day?

Beginning Sunday morning, our extended community will start arriving to help prepare for the day’s festivities. There will be flower gathering and crown making, pole cutting and decorating, ribbon preparations, food cooking, fire building, singing, dancing, and lots of Magick and Mystery as we embrace the Holy-day of fertility and fecundity.

If you stay until Sunday, you will have the opportunity to soften your rabbit hides with instruction from Harmony in the morning, and throughout the festivities.

Class includes:

  • One day of hands-on instruction with Harmony Cronin (and another half day if you stay for Sunday!)

  • A gourmet offal dinner on Saturday

  • Take your kill and your hide home to share

  • Optional (but totally encouraged) camp out Saturday night into Sunday celebration

Tuition - Sliding Scale $265-390
